Eight Questions* with Colby Allen
1. Why did you choose Nichols?
I chose Nichols because it offers me extensive opportunities as a business student. Knowing the great reputation of the school, I knew this was the best place for me to be to achieve my long-term goals after college.
2. In what extracurricular, leadership or athletics activities are you involved?
I play for the men’s golf team.
3. Tell us about a favorite assignment or project at Nichols and why it remains memorable.
My favorite project came this past semester. I worked with my classmates on a consulting project for a local association, and we recommended a full work-up of their system, including marketing methods, membership packages, event calendars and a polished website. Being able to apply what I’ve learned in the classroom to a real-world project was a fun experience that also helped me hone my skills.
4. When and where are you happiest at Nichols?
I’m happiest when I’m with my friends. I’ve built great friendships here. Some have been from freshman year; some I met as recently as just a couple of months ago. Whether it's getting food in the dining hall, going to the gym or playing golf at Dudley Hill, we always have fun.
5. What are your plans after graduation and how has Nichols prepared you for your career?
In addition to gaining real-world experience from classroom projects, I was able to get connected to alumni, which lead to a summer internship in the field I intend to go into after graduation.
6. What do you consider your greatest Nichols achievement?
My greatest achievement was receiving a 100 on a final project in one of my marketing classes where we worked on building a marketing plan for a local business.
7. Describe your Nichols classmates in three words.
Passionate, driven, multifaceted.
8. What advice would you give to future Bison?
Take advantage of the great opportunities Nichols has to offer. Get engaged in campus life whether that’s a sport, club or student organization.
