Networking Opportunities
Success isn’t just about readiness. It’s about opportunity.
Networking at Nichols is an invaluable benefit of being a Nichols student. Our entire community places a large emphasis on building professional relationships between our students and external contacts through classroom experiences, online resources, alumni relations, events and experiential learning.
Our alumni play an active role in helping you start your career on the right track. They offer invaluable networking opportunities, especially given the impressive ranks of our alumni. Our students have been able to connect with Neil Holt ’76, the Vice President of Music & Entertainment Ad Sales at Viacom, Inc; Keith Anderson ’81, a co-founder of Blackrock Investments; and James L. Dunbar ’51, founder and chairman of Dunbar Armored—all Nichols alumni who regularly visit with our students to share their insights and experience. And that’s just a sample.
Here you’ll have plenty of ways to explore career avenues and connect with industry experts and current-day practitioners. The following are just some of the ways you can get connected here.
Professional Development Seminar
As a part of our Professional Development Seminar (PDS) program, which all students must complete, you are required and encouraged to participate in several networking opportunities in the classroom and on campus such as:
- 2nd Year Alumni Networking Event
- 3rd Year Mock Interviews
- Annual Career & Internship Fair
- Career Exploration Nights
- Etiquette Dinner
In this seminar, you’ll also develop your personal brand and learn how to represent it digitally through LinkedIn and other resources—a must for networking in today’s digital age.
Career and Professional Development Center
Our Career and Professional Development Center, combined with the Professional Development Seminar program, places a large focus on employer relations. As a result, we create personalized engagement opportunities for employers and our students and alumni through the use of the following:
- Internal Online Database, hireNichols
- On-Campus Recruiting
- Information Tables
- Roundtable Discussions
- Classroom Engagement
- Experiential Learning
Student Alumni Society
Our Student Alumni Society (SAS) provides students with leadership opportunities and experiences that enhance their education and promote Nichols College spirit through involvement in campus, community and alumni activities.
Participating in SAS can offer you networking opportunities through events, trips and meetings with alumni. It’s a great way to not only build your network but also get valuable insights from alumni practicing in their fields, who are eager to help you. You’re sure to hear personal stories that both motivate you and help you prepare for the real world.
Major-specific clubs
You’ll have the opportunity to live your major through our academic clubs and meet successful professionals in the field at the same time. Each major is affiliated with a club that allows students to see what careers in that field are really like first-hand. A few recent examples include:
- Sport Management students traveled to New York City to meet with Madison Square Garden executives
- Criminal Justice Management students visited a prison to meet with officials and even a death row inmate
- The Marketing and Communications club conducts site visits with a variety of companies, learning first-hand what it takes to market products and services in today’s economy
- Accounting and Finance students have traveled to the N.Y.S.E., S.E.C., and a variety of regional and national firms
