Leaders understand people. And they’ve got top-notch communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills. But they weren’t born with these skills—they developed them.

That’s why here at Nichols, you’ll learn about these skills in your classes. And you can practice them, through the many leadership opportunities we provide. We believe real experiences are the key to perfecting your leadership skills and style.

With any position you’re awarded, you’ll have the support of our faculty of industry leaders and our dedicated staff, whether it’s advice or example you need. Here’s a sample of the many meaningful leadership opportunities you’ll find here:

Student Government Association

There are many roles and initiatives that are spearheaded by students in our Student Government Association that apply to any major—and offer experience in a range of roles.

Student clubs

We have over 45 student organizations, with guidance, training and web resources to support your efforts in these groups. And we’re always here to help you form a new club of your own.

Internships, on and off campus

In addition to off-campus internships, many students practice leadership through on-campus internships, available in a wide range of roles and functions across campus.

Sports team leadership

In any of our 21 division III varsity teams or club sports, you can learn and apply direct lessons from coaches and athletics leaders who highly value leadership and leadership training.

Community service programs

You can take a big role in helping our area communities. And you’ll be in good company—community service is important to many of our students. They’ve donated hundreds of hours every year to community causes.

Student Advisory Panel, Institute for Women’s Leadership

Our Institute for Women’s Leadership explores and raises awareness of issues impacting women in business. As a member of its student advisory panel, you can be involved in and take charge of a host of activities to further their mission.

Teaching Assistantships

Many of our students take on teaching assistantships in their strongest subjects. As a teaching assistant, you can inspire your classmates to get through the toughest class material and help them master key concepts.

Peer mentoring

As a peer mentor, you’ll play a positive role in shaping the college experience of your fellow Bison. With your encouragement and support, you’ll help them find the people, resources and opportunities they need.

Peer tutoring

As a peer tutor in our Academic Resource Center, you can use your strong academic background to help others achieve their academic goals—and help them go further than they thought possible.
