Center for Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion
Our Vision.
The vision of CDEI is to ensure the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion are woven into the fabric and framework of Nichols College. Our Center welcomes all students, staff, and faculty. We focus on inclusion, and integrity and we are committed to embracing all perspectives.
Our Mission.
We strive to cultivate a campus culture where students feel empowered. The Center of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Nichols College leads and supports initiatives that promote diversity, equity and inclusion by developing, and sustaining meaningful and collaborative relationships. We understand and value that every individual is unique. We see this uniqueness shaped by race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs and other life experiences and ideologies.
Our Goals.
- Increasing and investing to our DEI strategic plan which will result in a more diverse and inclusive community by moving from policy to practice, and compliance to commitment.
- Weaving DEI into the fabric of Nichols College will strengthen and empower the voices of our campus community, staff and faculty.
- Committed to a university-wide, and culturally sustaining initiative that provides everyone with and equitable opportunities.
- Promoting and supporting inclusive teaching, scholarship and professional development.
Diversity is more than just acknowledging and/or tolerating a difference. It’s a conscious practice to understand and appreciate the interdependence of humanity by providing support to individuals allowing them the strength to support others and to focus on their own personal growth. The quantitative measure of human differences should be included, but not limited to race, neurodiversity, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, socioeconomic status, physical ability, religious affiliation, national origin, political beliefs and cultures.
We are intentional about eliminating barriers that have prevented full participation and are working to increase access to resources and networks for underrepresented groups across our student population. Providing everyone with access and support to obtain resources needed to be successful. Identifying and eliminating barriers that prevent full participation. “Educational equity means that each student receives what they need to develop to their full academic and social potential.”
-National Equity Project
Promoting and sustaining a sense of belonging at Nichols College by ensuring that students, facility and staff of all backgrounds, identities, abilities, perspectives and beliefs have an equal opportunity to belong and achieve by becoming part of the fabric of the Nichols College community. We believe that every person should feel as though they belong here. Nichols College values and practices respect, and all people are recognized for their inherent worth and dignity.
