Investiture Week Events: Celebrating Bill Pieczynski
The Nichols College community will celebrate the investiture of William C. Pieczynski as the institution’s ninth president on Friday, Oct. 18, at 3:30 p.m. The ceremony will be held in the Athletic and Recreation Center and all are welcome.
Following the ceremony, the College will host two celebratory events—one for students and another for faculty, staff and invited guests. More information is included below.
The investiture ceremony culminates a week of festivities held in conjunction with the formal installation of Pieczynski as president, a role he has held since May.
- Beginning Monday, Oct. 14, Lombard Dining Hall will serve a new pie each day as part of “Pie Week,” a playful nod to President Pieczynski’s last name.
- On Wednesday, Oct. 16, the campus will celebrate Oktoberfest on Copper Quad at 4 p.m. This event, sponsored annually by Nichols Dining in collaboration with Student Affairs, will feature traditional German food, beverages, games and entertainment.
- On Thursday, Oct. 17, the campus community is invited to explore the College’s storied history at the Nichols Showcase. The showcase, held in Lombard Dining Hall from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., will highlight items from the Nichols archives, including a video on the founding of Nichols College and the many accomplishments of those who learned, led, lived and taught here.
Investiture or presidential inaugural ceremonies are treasured events at Nichols and on campuses of academic peers across the nation and around the world. This is an opportunity to celebrate the College’s origins as an educational institution whose roots date to 1815, and to set our sights on the promising future that awaits under President Pieczynski’s leadership. A video of the ceremony will be available the week of Oct. 21, as well as a Flickr album of photos and a multimedia recap of the events.
