Nichols College acknowledges that the Certification and Agreement under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students was signed and returned to the Department of Education on 4/16/20. The College intends to use 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.

Nichols College was allocated $1,236,801 and has received $1,236,801 as of May 28, 2020.

The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act as of May 28, 2020 is $619,297.

The total number of students at the College who filed a FAFSA was 1,160. Filing a FAFSA allows a student’s eligibility to be considered but does not guarantee they will be eligible to receive funds under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.

Based on need-based parameters established by the College, 723 students as of May 28, 2020 have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.

The method used by the College to determine which students receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants and how they would receive under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act is as follows:

  • 205 Students with an EFC of $0-$1,000 will receive approximately $1,200 for a total of $299,505
  • 116 Students with an EFC of $1,001-$5,000 will receive approximately $900 for a total of $127,086
  • 123 Students with an EFC of $5,001-$10,000 will receive approximately $600 for a total of $90,036
  • 279 Students with an EFC of greater than $10,000 will receive approximately $300 for a total of $102,670

The payment of these emergency grants was processed through an Emergency Funds process in Colleague, the College’s ERP system. This process by-passes the student’s account and allows a check or ACH payment to be paid directly to the student without interfering with their account balance. These payments were processed on Friday, May 22, 2020.

  • 198 Students with an EFC of $0-$1,000 will receive approximately $;1,250 for a total of $247,500
  • 119 Students with an EFC of $1,001-$5,000 will receive approximately $950 for a total of $113,050
  • 109 Students with an EFC of $5,001-$10,000 will receive approximately $650 for a total of $70,850
  • 482 Students with an EFC of greater than $10,000 will receive approximately $350 for a total of $168,700
  • 142 Non-FAFSA filers will receive approximately $150 for a total of $21, 300

The payment of these emergency grants was processed through an Emergency Funds process in Colleague, the College’s ERP system. Filing a FAFSA allows a student’s eligibility to be considered but does not guarantee they will be eligible to receive funds under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.

Based on need-based parameters established by the College, 1,171 students as of August 23, 2021 have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.

The method used by the College to determine which students receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants and how they would receive under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act is as follows:

  • 242 Students with an EFC of $0-$1,000 will receive approximately $2,565 for a total of $618,371
  • 129 Students with an EFC of $1,001-$5,000 will receive approximately $2,050 for a total of $264,450
  • 116 Students with an EFC of $5,001-$10,000 will receive approximately $1,550 for a total of $179,800
  • 516 Students with an EFC of greater than $10,000 will receive approximately $1,050 for a total of $541,800
  • 169 Non-FAFSA filers will receive approximately $150 for a total of $76,365

The payment of these emergency grants was processed through an Emergency Funds process in Colleague, the College’s ERP system.
