Director of Alumni Relations

The Director of Alumni Relations is a key member of the College Advancement team responsible for strategically engaging Nichols alumni in both traditional and innovative ways. The ideal candidate will be able to successfully steer the College’s Alumni Relations program to inspire alumni to sustain and strengthen their commitment to Nichols College.

DESCRIPTIONS OF DUTIES AND TASKS

  • Serve as the “face of alumni relations” for constituents
  • Implement a comprehensive strategy for Alumni Relations to grow and maintain alumni participation and support through various avenues such as strong communication, personal interaction, and high-touch services
  • Assist the development team in meeting the College’s fundraising goals; serve as a supportive member of the development team on various fundraising campaigns, alumni cultivation, and special events. Perform approximately 100 fundraising and “friendraising” visits per fiscal year.
  • Provide overall leadership and direction of the college’s alumni program and executive support, vision & leadership for the Alumni Board of Directors to craft and execute its annual plan
  • Oversee the planning and execution of class and affinity reunions, regional chapters, and special events that engage and capture maximum alumni participation; coordinate post-event wrap-up for college advancement team; collaborate with stewardship
  • Manage alumni volunteers, oversee the Alumni Mentor Program and serve as advisor of the Student Alumni Society
  • Develop special programming for young alumni and students
  • Maintain dynamic and engaging content on the College’s website
  • Provide content assistance to the editor of the alumni magazine and newsletters
  • Form strategic partnerships with faculty and other administrative departments with a strong link to alumni
  • Work with campus community to build communication and benefits offered to alumni and strengthen personal contact, specifically, liaise with Career Services (institute career networking efforts for alumni & current students)
  • Manage the alumni relations budget
  • Oversee day-to-day activities of Alumni Relations including staff supervision, work study, alumni correspondence, and inquiries.
  • Benchmark with similar size colleges

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • This person will:
    • possess excellent interpersonal skills
    • be outgoing, energetic and have diverse networking experience
    • have a strong grasp of fundraising techniques
    • possess superior written and oral communication skills
    • have dynamic presentation skills and be comfortable speaking to large audiences
    • be highly organized and capable of producing strong results in a fast-paced environment
    • possess strong leadership capabilities
    • be creative and have a grasp of marketing techniques
    • be proficient in all Microsoft Office products
    • be familiar with social networking mediums such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter
    • have experience in a higher education setting working closely with alumni, faculty, staff, and students
    • be skilled at meeting and event planning and execution
    • have direct experience managing and motivating volunteers
    • be able to interact effectively with persons of various ages and backgrounds
    • possess a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Communication, or related discipline. Preference will be given to candidates with an advanced degree.
    • be available to work evenings and weekends and travel as required

Preferably this person will have: 

  • 2 - 4 years experience in alumni relations or advancement
  • 1 - 2 years fundraising experience
  • experience with Raiser’s Edge or other fundraising software programs
